Finding Freedom is…

Finding Freedom is a community of people who know that real lasting change is possible and we want to give others support in achieving it. We know the power of freedom from trauma, addictions, abuse, mental/emotional illness, and so much more. We know this because we have experienced it. We have walked a therapeutically-informed, cathartic journey towards wholeness and healing. If you are someone in need, we want to invite you to join us in your own journey. And if you are someone who wants to help others, we invite you to join us in partnering together to bring healing and a future to those in need.

We are a movement of transformation that is sweeping through Bozeman, Montana and beyond. This world needs change-makers, justice-bearers, and love-bringers, and that is impossible unless people are given practical support and effective tools to step out of the bondage they are in due to the damage in their lives. That is why our vision is to empower people all over the world to rise up out of the damage of this life and embrace the remarkable beauty and uniqueness of the people we are all created to be.

We do more than just teach people to cope. This journey is more than learning how to manage difficult emotions. This is about finding real healing. Imagine if the energy and drive it takes to cope with and manage everyday life was instead freed up to enable us all to really LIVE life. Imagine a world where that was true for everyone, where they could pour that energy into creativity, helping others, solving problems, productivity, engagement, community, and love. Our neighborhoods, cities, country, and world would be a much better place.

Our community called Rapha, based around Therapeutic Community principles, began in Bozeman in 2009 and has been growing and expanding ever since. Beginning in a local church, our reach expanded to people in other faith communities as well as those without a faith background. Our members live all around the local area and participate in our various activities in whatever way best suits the rhythm and need of their daily life. We also have members in other states and internationally who use our resources and are part of our online community.

Our approach is inclusive and equally suited to people of all (or no) faith. We acknowledge the truth that we are all broken in various ways, whether supporter, client, family member, or friend. We all have need. This shared awareness shatters the power of shame and judgement, and breaks through the division and isolation that can cripples us. Even this brings its own freedom! We are human beings growing in hope; hope for a better way, hope for a brighter future, and hope for the person we are each created to be.

Finding Freedom does…

This community, and the journey we invite people on, is called Rapha Journey. Rapha is the Hebrew word for healing and wholeness. The journey was developed in England by Dr. Peter Holmes and Dr. Susan Williams, both of whom are specialists in the field of Therapeutic Community. They arrived in Bozeman in 2009 and began teaching people practical tools to use in a journey of healing and wholeness. Using an expert-by-experience support model and a cathartic approach, the Rapha Journey equips people to support each other in working through areas of pain, trauma, and damage in their lives, in order to let them go forever.

Over the years we have curated a number of methods in offering this support. This includes small groups and group meetings, workshops along with other written and audio resources, as well as an online forum where people are able to connect worldwide. Our work relies on the creation, building, and training of amazing support teams, many of them voluntary, who have all experienced healing through this Rapha journey, and have a heart to support others. In addition, we also offer accommodation for those seeking a more intensive program.

We are holistically focused. In addition to supporting people to find emotional healing, we encourage life-skills learning. This can include budgeting and financial management, learning healthier lifestyles (including proper nutrition), as well as developing interpersonal and relational skills. We offer a psychometric assessment that informs people of their natural skill set, and gives them direction in education or career development where they are most likely to succeed. Due to the often complicated difficulties in our lives, these practical and future-oriented steps can prove to be incredible redemption.
